چکیده

positive correlation at 65 +/5 degrees N geomagnetic latitude and altitudes 44-58 km in Figure 5. I am wondering about any possible significance of the large negative correlation, which is computed for 35 +/5 degrees S geomagnetic latitude and altitudes 50-62 km in Figure 5. Could the authors please elaborate on this as well? The mechanism for this is not yeat clear, but this is out of the scope of the paper. We have not mentioned it in the text, because due to the general comment of Referee 1 we now focus only on 0–80◦ N in this plot.

Local impact of solar variation on NO2 in the lower mesosphere and upper stratosphere from 2007 to 2012

MIPAS/ENVISAT data of nighttime NO2 volume mixing ratios (VMR) from 2007 until 2012 between 40 km and 62 km altitude are compared with the geomagnetic Ap index and solar Lyman-α radiation. The local impact of variations in geomagnetic activity and solar radiation on the VMR of NO2 in the lower mesosphere and upper stratosphere in the Northern Hemisphere is investigated by means of superposed ep...

Interactive comment on “Diurnal variations of stratospheric ozone measured by ground-based microwave remote sensing at the Mauna Loa NDACC site: measurement validation and GEOSCCM model comparison” by A. Parrish et al

The diurnal variation of ozone in the stratosphere and lower mesosphere is analyzed using data from a ground-based microwave radiometer operating at the Mauna Loa NDACC station since the 1990s. Presented are considerations concerning the internal quality of the measurements, a verification study of the quality of the observed diurnal variability in comparison with external data sets obtained fr...

Stratospheric NO and NO2 abundances from ATMOS SolarOccultation Measurements

Using results from a time-dependent photochemical model to calculate the diurnal variation of NO and NO2, we have corrected Atmospheric Trace MOlecule Spectroscopy (ATMOS) solar-occultation retrievals of the NO and NO 2 abundances at90 ø solar zenith angle. Neglecting to adjust for the rapid variation of these gases across the terminator results in potential errors in retrieved profiles of-20% ...
